Half of HBO Now, most of Showtime and Starz OTT subscribers coming from Amazon Channels: analyst

By April 24, 2018No Comments

Quick definition:
1) HBO Now –
Streaming version of HBO. No pay TV subscription required.
2) Showtime OTT — Similar for Showtime.

Previously on SOTS. Amazon Channels is the closest thing to à la carte TV in the market.

% of customers coming from Amazon Channels:
1) HBO: 50%
2)
Showtime OTT: 75%

Interesting. Amazon Channels is serving the role that a traditional cable company would in driving subscribers for premium “cable” networks.

Another similarity is that Amazon owns the relationship and most importantly, client data.

Customer estimates:
1) HBO Now: 2m
2) Showtime OTT: 1.5m
